Rivers/Bays of the Big Bend

The five major rivers that flow into the Big Bend’s Coastal areas: the Apalachicola River, the Ocklockonee River, the St. Marks River (which confluents with theWakulla), the Steinhatchee River and the Suwannee River; are the most prominent geographic features of this area. The volume of groundwater that Spring Creek has historically contributed via nearshore springs to this ecological system warrants note also.

There are five major named bays with the area; three with fairly distinct geographic boundaries:  St. Joe Bay, Apalachicola Bay and Alligator Harbor Bay. The larger defined bay areas are Apalachee Bay – off Ochlockonee to Suwannee, and the smaller Deadman Bay – off Steinhatchee.
